David Stollar
Sanskrit Teacher

David has been teaching the Sanskrit language to children and adults for many decades.

For many years he was the Head of the Sanskrit Department at the St. James schools and was instrumental in creating the Sanskrit course there. With help from his colleagues David designed the Sanskrit IGCSE exam, now presented by the Cambridge International Exam Board, and the textbooks leading to that exam.
After retiring, David has continued to teach Sanskrit both online and at his house in West London.
Some keys to his method of teaching Sanskrit are the following priorities:
-
To keep the course as simple as possible with the minimum of technically challenging language or prior knowledge of grammar;
-
To move step by step with enough repetition so that at each step the information is digested and not forgotten.
-
To base the course on the great epic stories to keep it rich and interesting;
-
To incorporate within the course a systematic account of the ancient Vedic culture which forms the background to the great epics, the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
